What are Mail Drops?

Thru-hikers typically organize supplies for the journey far in advance, and have friends and family mail packages to predetermined stops along the way, to be picked up as general delivery. These caches-via-mail are usually referred to as "mail drops." All mail drops should be addressed as follows:

CHRISTINA SAKERS

C/O GENERAL DELIVERY

CITY, STATE ZIP CODE

PLEASE HOLD FOR NORTH BOUND THRU-HIKER

ESTIMATED DATE OF ARRIVAL (2 WEEK RANGE)

Mail drops should include 14 pounds of food items such as protein bars, peanut butter, dried fruits, rice, beans, nuts, oatmeal, cream of wheat, pasta, dehydrated vegetables, high calorie and protein candy bars, drink mix packets and bagged meats like tuna, salmon and chicken. Additional items in mail drops would be notes of encouragement, first aid supplies, hygiene items, Gospel Tracts and pocket Bibles.
